Trainees

Graduates and young professionals are our future and we’re committed to their recruitment and development.

We offer a limited number of places in our supervised workplace training (SWT) program. To ensure that you have the opportunity to fully develop your skills in different areas of law and to obtain a broader understanding of legal practice, you will complete a number of rotations. During each rotation, you will have exposure to the following practice groups:

  • Commercial (including Commercial Litigation);
  • Property & Construction;
  • Family Law; and
  • one of either Workplace Relations or Estate Planning & Probate.

From your first day you will be assigned a buddy to help you settle in and become part of the Moores team. You will also be allocated a mentor in each rotation. You will have regular contact with principals, lawyers and support staff and will work as part of a team toward our mission and strategic goals.

We believe that the most valuable experience you will gain will be through practical training and mentoring from principals and senior lawyers who are experts in their field. Our principals and senior lawyers are available and accessible and take the time to teach you the “tools of the trade”. You will also have the opportunity to attend external seminars and workshops to further hone your skills.

By utilising the latest technology and business practices, we ensure that you will have access to a wide range of resources necessary for maximising your skills and potential.

Seasonal Clerkships

Moores operate a three-week clerkship program twice a year – mid year and end of year.

The program gives you the opportunity to put what you have been learning at university into practice and to experience the working environment at Moores. To give you an accurate snapshot of life as a lawyer at Moores you will be placed in one of the following practice groups during the program:

  • Commercial Advisory Group (includes Not for Profit law and Workplace Relations law)
  • Estate Planning & Probate
  • Family Law
  • Property & Construction

Learn and develop

As a seasonal clerk you will participate in an induction program designed to introduce you to what we are all about at Moores - our culture, our people, our offices, our areas of expertise - as well as to give you the necessary system skills and knowledge to enable you to “dive into the deep end” of legal practice. Once in your practice group, you will be assigned a buddy to help you settle in and become part of the team. With the support of your buddy and your workgroup leader you will be actively involved in day-to-day professional activities such as conducting legal research, drafting documents, attending group meetings as well as client conferences and court proceedings with other lawyers. Our principals, lawyers and support staff are there for you and take the time to share their knowledge and guide you in the right direction.
